Behind the Scenes - November 19, 2015 : Brillante Mendoza Film Festival

Behind the Scenes with Ivy Visitacion

Celebrated Indie film director, Brillante Mendoza, held the launch of two latest sensational Indie films, “Taklub” and “Imbisibol” at SM City Bacolod recently.

The Brillante Mendoza film festival and press conference was held at the SMBD main atrium, north wing, and attended by local media, Bacolod's culturati and literati crowd, and film buffs who have seen and admire Brillante's work. The presentation began with pre-show entertainment with music, provided by the Bacolod Youth Cultural Association Rondalla.

The host of the program was popular Bacolod talent John Arceo, who informed the audience that Mendoza is the first Asian to win the prestigious Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival, for his film “Kinatay”, which film critics abroad regard as an ultra neo-realist.

It was four years ago, also at SM, when we were given the rare opportunity to watch four of Mendoza's critically acclaimed, groundbreaking films: “Manoro”, “Foster Child”, “Kaleldo”, and “Lola”, which are all recipients of international awards. With the very encouraging response from the Bacolod audience, we went on to have special screenings of his new critically-acclaimed films, like “Captive” and “Thy Womb”.

“Taklub” would be very interesting for Negrenses, who also experienced the devastation brought about by super typhoon Yolanda.

Mendoza came for the launch with his lovely wife, Krisma. During the refreshments, Bacolodnons had a chance to hobnob with the guests and were impressed to learn that “Taklub” was screened in the Cannes Film Festival where it won the Ecumenical Jury Prize-Special Mention.*
